Hyping Health Threats

Writing for the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, R. Harold Brown argues that "the danger [to children from mercury poisoning] was never as grave as painted." He adds: "Nothing spoils an environmental health 'cause' like decreasing danger."

Indeed. Threats to health--whether from tobacco, transfats, or other factors--are grist for the mill of the nanny state.
