A Critique of Retail Clinics

Categories:  Retail Clinics

The assault on the idea of retail clinics continues. A fellow with Minnesota 2020, a liberal think tank, denounces retail clinics in this opinion piece.

Among the complaints:

  • Government doesn't have enough control (that is, insufficient regulation)
  • Pharmacies that host the clinics may (gasp) make money as a result
  • They may encourage "fragmented" care (patients need one person to oversee everything, so it would seem)
In short, the argument is that you can't trust the profit motive to keep people healthy.
